Chairpersons Report 2007

It is with a feeling of excitement and anticipation that I present this annual report on this my first year, as the new Chairperson of Windsor Women’s Centre Management Committee.

Before I commence to give a flavour of the past year’s activities I would like on behalf of the Management Committee, the staff and Centre users to convey our thanks to our outgoing Chair Marie Hogden.  Marie was a tremendous asset to the committee and to the organisation, she ably represented the centre at both community and government level and carried out to her duties with humour and style and her presence is certainly missed around the centre.

This year as in every other year the core staff have worked tirelessly to secure the necessary funding to ensure that the Centre continues to operate to its full capacity in offering women exciting opportunities to improve their qualifications through education and training.  And to ensure that every women who needs childcare to return to study is catered for.

This incoming year we will witness exciting new projects which will begin with the demolition of our Ebor Street premises and the erection of the ‘Villages’ very own Children’s Centre.  This development, alongside the purchase of our new dwelling, which is to be a dedicated training facility, will allows Windsor to complete the circle of services on offer to the local community.  Temporarily of course, this will mean that there will be inevitable disruptions and a certain adjustment to the programme, and staff will have to work in less than ideal circumstances – however we have every confidence that the team will negotiate these additional challenges with a blend of humour and innovation.

Windsor Women’s Centre continues to be true to its founding vision by putting women first, by engaging with the community, by being responsive to community concerns and needs and by acting to secure services in this area we remain an invaluable asset to the community.

Finally we wish to send our congratulations to Ruth our administrator on the birth of her little daughter Rebecca and we look forward to welcoming them both early next year.

Kim Lyndsay
